And she still has the double with Venus for that gold medal (it would be their 2nd). It was a pleasure to watch Serena after the match literally hopping up and down and dancing for joy!!

What a great story!!

10K open water swimming marathon for women
The swimming action at the Aquatics Centre (also known as the House of Michael Phelps) wrapped up a couple of days ago, but we're right in the thick of what could be called the biggest swimming event of all. The 10K open-water marathon — or what I call "madness" is being held at The Serpentine in London's Hyde Park, where Hungarian Eva Risztov held off American Haley Anderson to win gold in the women's swim on Aug. 9 and the men's event will be held tomorrow. That is not a typo — it is supposed to read 10K, as in 10 kilometers straight of swimming. In comparison, the swimming leg in the Triathlon, which for the London Games was also held at The Serpentine, was just 1.5K. Recreational swimmers need not apply.
This event was formally introduced to the Olympics in Beijing four years ago, although the swimming events held at the first Games in 1896 were also swum outside. The 10K takes approximately two hours — a long time, physically and mentally, for the athletes. Swimming in a controlled environment like the Aquatics Centre, competitors tend to focus on how fast the water is and how loud the crowd is. In the Open Water event, swimmers have to worry about the temperature of the water and what might be lurking a few feet beneath them, all while keeping an eye out for errant limbs nailing their noggins.
Most importantly, they need to think about keeping their heads in the game. When the average swimmer's mind tends to wander after the third length of free-breaststroke-fly-splash at a local pool, how on earth do these athletes do it?

Olympic Headlines
David Boudia wins gold in 10m platform diving David Boudia ended a gold-medal drought for the United States with a dramatic last dive that scored the most points of the 10-meter platform competition at the Olympics on Saturday night. Boudia's victory by 1.08 points over Qiu Bo of China gave the U.S. its first gold in diving since 2000, and was the first by an American man since the late Mark Lenzi won the 3-meter springboard at the 1992 Barcelona Games. Tom Daley of Britain settled for the bronze at 556.95 after leading going into the final dive in front of a raucous home crowd.
Simply the best: US women win unprecedented 5th straight gold. The U.S. women's basketball team routed France 86-50 in the final Saturday, winning their fifth straight Olympic gold medal and putting more distance between themselves and the rest of the world heading to Rio for the 2016 Games. The win was the latest in this dominant run that the Americans have been on over the past 16 years. The U.S. has now won 41 consecutive games in the Olympics since taking the bronze medal in 1992. Teresa Edwards, Dawn Staley, Sheryl Swoopes and Lisa Leslie got the amazing run started and now Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Tamika Catchings have continued it. With young stars Candace Parker, Maya Moore and Tina Charles a big part of the success in London it doesn't look like the run will end anytime soon.
US women win 4x400m relay togive Gelix 3rd gold. Allyson Felix won her third gold medal of the London Olympics, giving the United States a 20-meter lead after the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay and then watching teammate Sanya Richards-Ross bring home the victory Saturday night. The U.S. runners finished in 3 minutes, 16.87 seconds for the country's fifth straight Olympic title in the event. Russia finished second in 3:20.23 and Jamaica was third in 3:20.95. Dee Dee Trotter ran the opening leg for the United States and built a lead before handing to Felix, who more than doubled the advantage by the time she passed to Francena McCorory. Richards-Ross had a stress-free anchor leg to add this gold medal to her 400-meter gold. Felix earlier won the 200 mand 4x100 relay.
