I'm not sure that the GOP has any 'luster'. I think that they won the House in 2010 because of people's desperation, not because they were so respected.

:)Good afternoon my friends from Tuxy (my tuxedo cat) and me Today is 201st day of 2011 with 164 days left in the year.
8-)Today in central New York at 9:04 a.m. it's fair, temp 73ºF (feels like 76ºF), winds SW @ 6 mph, humidity 79% and pressure 29.90 in and rising. Today - Sunshine with a few clouds. High near record temp of 93ºF. winds WSW @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 20%. The heat wave has reached us.
Today's Headlines of Interest
1. "A catastrophic error"? UK prime minister under fire over hacking. Opposition party leader says David CAmeron made a 'deliberate attempt to hide from the facts' about an aide arrested over phone hacking in a stormy debate in parliament.
2. East Coast warned heat index could hit 110. Temperatures in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City expected to feel like 110ºF. Parts of 32 states plus Washington, DC, were under heat advisories, warnings, or watches as the deadly heat wave that had blasted the Midwest expanded eastward.
3. Senate GOP shows flexibility in debt, budget fight. Republican senators are showing more flexibility than their tea party-backed House colleagues as Washington policymakers seek to steer the govenment away from a first-ever default on its financial obligations and Obama endorses the 'Gang of Six' plan.
4. SPORTS: Pittsburgh Pirates won't be quiet at trade deadline. Longstanding weakling finally has a shot at winning a division and they'll likely go after some power and relief by July 31st.
5. Emotions rise on last day of space shuttle. The astronauts and support team for NASA's final space shuttle flght say they're feeling a rush of emotions as they head toward Thursday's historic landing ending the shuttle program.
;)Have a wnderful Wednesday my friends.

Good morning my friends from Tuxy and me Today is the 206th day of 2011 with 159 days left in the year. 8-)Today in central New York at 9:10 a.m. it's mostly cloudy, temp 69ºF (feels like 71ºF), winds SW @ 5 mph, humidity 81% and pressure 29.89 in and falling. Today - variable clouds with scattered showers and thunderstorms , mainly during the afternoon (a few may be severe), high 85ºF. winds SSW @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 40%. Another warm and muggy day. Today's Headlines of Interest. 1. NFL, Players reportedly agree to end lockout. According to an anonymous source, NFL owners and players agreed to the terms of a deal to end the lockout. I doubt it. First the Players Association executive committee has to meet and approve it. Then it goes before the 32 player reps. At this point, if it has passed, the owners will end the lockout. Finally, all 1,900 players have to vote and it has to pass by 50% +1. The executive committee meets today to take the first vote. 2. Lawmakers pursue rival budget plans, markets uneasy. US moves closer to ratings downgrade and default that could send shockwaves through markets worldwide, as a sharply divided Congress pursued rival budget plans that appeared unlikely to win broad support. I am sick to death of this whole thing. Pass a temporary raise of the debt limit and get on with the negotiations over budget cuts and taxes (raised on only the millionaires, not us peons who will be the first to suffer if the US defaults on its debts.) 3. Grizzly bear mauls teens hiking in Alaska. wilderness. Youngsters on trek with National Outdoor Leadership school ran across a mother grizzly and cub as they tried to cross a river in the Talkeetna Mountains. What an unfortunate incident but hardly the grizzly's fault. She was only protecting her cub from a perceived threat. We would do the same in circumstances we felt threatened one of our children. 4. Accused Norway killer of at least 93 attends brief court hearing. Suspect sought to trigger an 'anti-Muslim' revolution. Judge to close hearing to press. French police search house of Anders Breivik's father. This self-confessed mass killler has said that he wants to explain his motives at the hearing but the judge has closed it to the press and public. Good. There is absoutely nothing that can explain such horrific acts and let's not give him a forum to vent his right-wing hatred of the "others". 5. Moody's warns Greek default almost certain. Moody's cut Greece's credit rating further into junk territory and is certain to slap a default tag on its debt as a result of a new EU rescue package--euro zone leaders and banks agreed last week that the private sector should shoulder part of the burden of a rescue deal. Washington, are you listening? Do you want the same for us? It sure looks like it. 6. Vatican recalls Ireland envoy after abuse rebuke. Unusual step reflects heightened tensions after wave of criticism in Ireland over its role in the child abuse scandal. The Vatican's ambassador to Ireland has been recalled following severe criticism by the Irish parliament of the church's role in covering up child sex abuse. Good lord, will this never end? What is the matter with these "good, Christian gentlemen"? No wonder Islam is on the rise. The largest Christian entity keeps making the child abuse scandal worse, proving its Christianity is severely in question.. Today's Flower: Mahonia aquifolium Happy Monday everyone.

Hi Capt. Yes, I decided to leave the MSN boards. They are too unsettled, especially after they took down the MSN TV General Discussion board and Canada's entertainment boards. I figured it was only a matter of time when they'd start on the Lifestyle boards. And then I got banned as did my two best friends, sus and IIF. None of us can figure out why. So now I have adopted the attitude that I don't want to burn my bridges, so to speak. I'm goint to stay active here and on another proboard. I just wish I wasn't the only one here, but I can always talk to myself.

Good morning my friends from Tuxy and me Today is the 208th day of 2011 with 157 days left in the year. 8-)Today in NY's Finger Lakes at 7:26 a.m. it's mostly cloudy , temp 64ºF (feels like 64ºF), winds W @ 5 mph, humidity 80% and pressure 29.92 in and rising. Today - mostly sunny , high 84ºF. winds NW @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 0%. Another typical summer day, which is pretty nice.. Today's Headlines of Interest. 1. Casey Anthony judge blasts media, holds back juror names. The names of jurors in the Casey Anthony trial will remain secret until at least Oct 25th to allow those enraged by her acquittal to "compose and restrain themselves," according to the judge's order. Judge Belvin Perry acknowledged that the names must be disclosed eventually. He also took the opportunity to chastised our modern-day media. He lamented what he said was the blurring of lines between news and entertainment, saying court proceedings have become just anothe formof mindless entertainment and a revenue source for broadcast networks. "It was reported that television ratings for the trial were extraordinary. Clearly, the broadcast ... devolved into cheap, soap-opera-like entertainment," he wrote. He is advocating a new law to keep juror names secret in "specific, rare cases" both to protect jurors constitutional right to privacy and to prevent potential jurors from avoiding service. I glad that there is still a sane voice in this case. It certainly isnt in the Americn media. 2. Report: Rural Americans face greater lack of healthcare access. Rural Americans are more likely to suffer from chronic health conditions (diabetes, heart disease, cancer) and face greater difficulty accessing quality healthcare than urbanites. So what else is new. This has been a problem for decades. 3. Can You Believe This?: North Korea demands peace treaty with US. North Korea demanded that the US sign a peace treaty formally endng the Korean War, saing that a treaty could to a long way toward resolving a deadlock over Pyongyang's pusuit of nuclear weaons. And if you believe that, I've got a bridge I'd love to sell you. 4. In the Who Cares Department: Crystal Harris gets candid about split with Hugh Hefner. I can't believe that this is a news item for today. Why in the world should anyone care about the relationship between this blonde bimbo and the octogenarian playboy Hugh Hefner? 5. Riot in south China after deathof fruit vendor. Angry residetns in a southern Chinese city went on a rampage after oficials apparently beat to death a disabled fruit vendor, in the latest incident of social unrest in the world's 2nd-largest economy and the largest dictatorship. The riot was sparked after urban management officers (a quasi-police force that enforces laws against begging and other petty offenses) were suspected of beating the vendor to death. China's stabililty-obsessed rulers get nervous about any sort of protest or unrest. "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown." Today's Flower: Gloriosa superba 'Rothschildiana' Have a great Wednesday everyone.

us.social.s-msn.com/s/images/emoticons/coffee.gif [/img]Good morning my friends from Tuxy and me Today is the 209th day of 2011 with 156 days left in the year. 1. Sink the space station? Not so fast. Now that the space shuttle is out of service, the Russians are in charge of getting people to and from the ISS, so when a Russian space official talks about sinking the station as early as 2020, that may sound ominous to some. In reality, it's not that big a deal. That's been the plan along, to take it out when it's obsolete. And they are looking into extending it until 2028 if its components are still in working order. By then, more stations should be in orbit, including space bases scheduled for launch in 2015 by private companies such as Bigelow Aerospace. 2. On the Hill: what's happened to the art of the deal? In the past, this would be the moment for late-night favors and veiled threats, for whispered messages from the party leaders: "I need you on this." This would be the point at which the Congressional bosses would have agreed to a concocted deal and then wrangle the votes for it with strong-arm tactics as old as the Capitol's marble. But not this time. The current debt-ceiling debate is occurring after a string of bitter elections has left Congress with few of the old characteristics that once made compromise impossible - fewer moderates, less trust and also less fear of leaders. Everyone appears to have lost the appetite for public favor trading and/or compromise. It's definitely a bumpy road ahead. 3. Somalis flee famine along 'roads of death'. Tens of thousands of Somalis, mostly women and children, are on the move, fleeing the worst famine in a generation in the Horn of Africa nation. They have endured two decades of civil war and two consecutive seasons of failed rains. Now after their livestock and crops have died, and with babies suffering from malnutrition and food prices skyrocketing, they have given up any pretense that they can survive on their own. But Hope of the world helping has also faded. Al-Shabb, the militia linked to al-Qaida that rules large areas of famine-stricken southern Somalia has barred relief agencies from delivering assistance. It denies that a famine is taking place and that thousands, mainly children, have died. The disaster here is total. And the people are left with no hope. 4. Furloughs: Federal workers often first to feel effect of a crisis. Federal employees commonly are among the first to feel the effects when federal agencies, for whatever reason, fall short on available spending money. Employees are told to stay home until further notice, although those deemed "excepted"/"emergency" continue working (without pay). Whether employees who were kept away from work are later paid for that time is decided in the budget process. Today's Flower: Asiatic lily Lilium 'Purple Reign' :)Have a terrific Thursday everyone.

Good morning my friends from Tuxy and me Today is the 209th day of 2011 with 156 days left in the year. 8-)Today in NY's Finger Lakes at 7:26 a.m. it's light rain , temp 75ºF (feels like 78ºF), winds SSW @ 7 mph, humidity 89% and pressure 29.90 in and steady. Today - scattered tunderstorms becoming more widespread in the afternoon , high 83ºF. winds SW @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 80%. I won't complain - we need the rain. Today's Headlines of Interest. 1. US Economy slows to snails pace. GDP comes in at 1.3% pace, much slower than expected as spending stalled amid high gasoline prices. This undrescores what's at stake as lawmakers and the administration go down to the wire on negotiations to increase the nation's borrowing limit so the government can pay its bills and avoid a downgrade of its pristine creadit rating. And it's time the idiots in Washington got down to business and stop all their stupid posturizing. Even Joe Scarborough, old-time conservative, and his fellow panelists feel that the Tea Partiers are waging a form of economic terrorism on our country. Shame on them!! Do these people realize or even care that they are playing with the lives of millions of Americans? 2. Soldier arrested in 'terror plot' targeting Fort Hood. Sometime Thursday, an AWOL private, facing a court martial, planned to set off bombs outside the base where a gunman killed 13 people in 2009. What is it about Fort Hood that's drawing these crazies? 3. What to do with a $100 billion space station... NASA and partner agencies weigh new options for now-completed structure. Under discussion are innovative ways to use the orbiting laboratory as a testing ground for technologies to help future deep space exploration. Today's Flower: Dahlia 'Marble Ball' ;)TGIF everyone

Good afternoon from Tuxy & me. Today is the 209th day of 2011 with 156 days left in the year. Today's Headlines of Interest: 1. Poachers nabbed with world's rarest turtles. Police in Madagascar have arrested two men attempting to smuggle out nearly 200 threatened tortoises, including two dozen of the rarest species. The 26 specimens of Ploughshare tortoise (Astrochelys yniphora) seized comprise about 5% of the estimated surviving wild population of the critically endangered animal, native to northern Madagascar. The live tortoises were found in a box and three bags on the tarmac at Antananrivo's Ivato Airport, according to TRAFFIC, which monitors illegal trade in wildlife. 2. UK police add computer probe to phone-hacking inquiry. Investigation is tackling new allegations of electronic privacy breaches. A new investigative team is being set up to tackle the new allegations, reporting to Sue Akers, the officer in charge of the phone hackng probe, the Metropolitan Police (Scotland Yard) said. And the circle keeps widening. :)Today's flower: Trumpet lily Lilium 'Copper King' Have a super Saturday everyone.

Today - sunshine with a few clouds, high 88ºF. winds W @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 20%. Another typical summer day, warm and dry. Since it's Sunday, there is no news bulletin today. Good morning my friends from Tuxy and me 8-)Today is the 211th day of 2011 with 154 days left in the year. Today in NY's Finger Lakes at 8:10 a.m. it's partly cloudy, temp 72ºF (feels like 73ºF), winds SSW @ 7 mph, humidity 76% and pressure 29.95 in and steady, dew point 64ºF. Today - a mix of clouds and sun , high 87ºF. winds W @ 10-15 mph, chance of rain 20%. A typical summer day, warm and dry. Still no rain. Today's Headlines of Interest: 1. UPDATE: $2 trillion in cuts: Key vote looms after debt deal. Senate expected to consider measrue Monday; agreement could mean 'the lowest level of domestic spending since Dwight Eisenhower was president,' Obama says. 2. Russia to Syria: 'Use of force against civilians...must cease.' 80 people were killed Sunday in Hama, rights activists say; US alleges 'full armed warfare' targeting citizens. Russia said it was concerned by reports of bloodshed in Hama and called for an end to the violence. No kidding, this from a country that has led the world in violence against its own people. 3. Deadly journey: 25 bodies found as mirgrant boart reaches Italy. Victims died after inhaling motor fumes, news agency reports, after setting sail from Libya and arriving on the Sicilian island of Lampedusa. The nationalities of the dead, who were hiding in the boat's engine room, have not been confirmed. Those poor people so desperate to escape their old life and each a new geginning. It also reminds us that we are not the only country with an illegal immigration problem. 4. Smallest med school in U.S. to open with 8 students. University of Kansas' satellite school aims to help fill need for rural doctors. The hope is that young doctors will be more willing to practice in small towns if they go to a medical school in a rural area. "By training physicians in a nonmetropolitan area, we are showing young medical students that ife can be good, and practice can be stimulating, outside of the big city," said Dr. William Cathcaret Rake, the physician who directs the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Salina. Good idad. Good luck.

Good morning my friends from Tuxy and me Today is the 215th day of 2011 with 150 days left in the year. 8-)Today in NY's Finger Lakes at 10:27 a.m. it's cloudy , temp 70ºF (feels like 71ºF), WNW @ 6 mph, humidity 83% and pressure 29.94 in and steady, dew point 64ºF. Today - a mix of clouds and sun, high 83ºF. winds NE @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 10%. Warm and muggy again. Today's Headlines of Interest: 1. Syria steps up violent crackdown against opponents. As UN condemns Syrian Pres. Bashar al-Assad, resident says at least 45 more killed in bsieged city of Hama, a sharp excalation of a mlitary campaign aimed at ending an uprising against his rule. UN protests don't seem to be having any affect, but I don't really see what we can do. 2. US judge allows American to sue Rumsfeld over torture. Translator contracted to US Marines allegedly was 'put on ice,' abused by military in Iraq. An Army veteran who says he was imprisoned unjustly and totured by the US military in Iraq will be alowed to sue former Defense Secretary Dnald Rumsfeld personally for damages. Heworked for an American contracting company as a translator for the Marines in the volatile Anhar province and was detained for nine months at Camp Cropper, a US military facility dedicated to holding "high-value" detainees. Later he filed suit in US District Court in Washington arguing that Rumsfeld personally approved torturous interrogation techniques on a case-by-case basis and controlled his detention without access to courts in violation of his constitutional rights. Frankly, I'm not surprised Rumsfeld did this and I hope he pays. 3. Jerry Lewis onpermanent holiday from MDA telethon. Veteran supporter of Muscular Dystrophy Association will not host annual fundraiser or serve as organization's chairman. There was no immediate explanation for the moves, and calls to the non-profit agency weren't returned. Well, this is certainly strange. Lewis had announced that he was retiring and that this year's telethon would be his last. Now MDA says he won't be on the telethon and his time is over as nattional chairman and won't be replaced. Sounds like a falling out occurred somewhere. 4. Virginia Tech locked down after report of man with a gun. The site of the worst campus shooting in US history is onlockdown with reports of a gunman on campus. "Person with a gun reported near Dietrick. Stay inside. Secure doors. Emergency personnel responding. Call 911 for help," the alert warned. Hopefully it's a false alarm. Today's flower: Liatris ligulistylis 'Monarch' Have a tremendous Thursday everyone. [/

Good afternoon my friends from Tuxy and me Today is the 218th day of 2011 with 147 days left in the year. 8-)Today in NY's Finger Lakes at 11:26 a.m. it's mostly cloudy , temp 72ºF (feels like 73ºF), winds S @ 3 mph, humidity 83%, pressure 29.54 in and rising, dew point 66ºF. Today - rain showers early with scattered thunderstorms later, high 80ºF. winds NW @ 5-10 mph, chance of rain 40%. Definitely cooler but muggy again. Today's Headlines of Interest: I've been putting off working on my daily bulletin, the news is just so depressing I really don't want to read about it, let alone comment on it. Between the ongoing debt crisis at home, to the death of the US Seals in Afghanistan to Syria's shooting it own citizens, the world is in a mess. 1. Wall Street drops amid global stock rout after US downgrade. 2. Navy SEAL's widow: 'We were blessed to be togther", Mom of fallen SEAL: 'So Proud"; Troops try to recover downed chopper ( and whiat is unsaid, the bodies). 3. Arab nations break silence, slam Syria violence.4. 9 out of 10 preschoolers' lunches hit unsafe temps. 5. Poice work to uncover motive in Ohio shooting. 6. Worker dies after being sucked into plane engine. 7. 65-foot waves threaten Chinese chemical plant. Good News?1. 61-year-old woman starts epic swim from Cuba to Fla.--with no shark cage. 2. Beached baby whale saved in Australia. :'(I have nothing further to say today. No flowers or happy sign off. I'm too depressed by the world today.
