Syracuse thumps George Washington; Orange set to become No. 1 team in country. After No. 1 Kentucky and No. 2 Ohio State lose on Saturday, the 3rd-ranked Orange could rise to top of polls on Monday. That’s all anyone was talking about after Syracuse’s 85-50 victory over George Washington in front of 23,226 fans on Saturday. “It’s a great feeling,’’ guard Chris Joseph said. “Our hard work has paid off. Two great teams lost tonight and we were able to win. If it does happen, it will be a great thing to see.’’ Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim added, “It’s nice. These kids have worked hard. Whatever happens, happens. We just have to be ready and ready to play next week.’’

RG3 wins first Heisman Trophy for Baylor
Robert Griffin III beat out preseason favorite Andrew Luck from Stanford, as well as running backs Trent Richardson (Alabama) and Montee Ball (Wisconsin) and cornerback Tyrann Mathieu (LSU) on Saturday night, becoming the first Baylor player to take home college football's most famous trophy. Griffin started the season on the fringe of the Heisman conversation, a talented and exciting player on a marginal team, while Luck was already being touted as a No. 1 NFL draft pick. Draft day might very well still belong to Luck, but Griffin diverted the Heisman to Waco, Texas, to a school that has never had a player finish better than fourth in the voting – and that was 48 years ago. Griffin's highlights were simply spectacular – his signature moment coming on a long, cross-field touchdown pass with 8 seconds left to beat Oklahoma – and he put up dizzying numbers, completing 72% of his passes for 3,998 yards with 36 touchdown passes and a nation-leading 192.3 efficiency rating.
